Let the recycling begin! RecycleMania is a friendly competition among college and universities in the United States that provides the campus community with a fun, proactive activity in waste reduction. Over a 10 week period, more than 400 colleges and universities across the country will be competing to see who is the top recycler (and with the added bonus of raising awareness of waste minimization)! Last year, due to the RecycleMania program, over 41 MILLION pounds of material were diverted from ending up in local landfills!!!

What are some ways that we can get kids excited about recycling, starting in the elementary grades and continuing all of the way through college (and beyond!)?
I think kids are naturally interested in recycling! There was a news story recently about a boy who has begun educating his teachers and peers about recycling in their community… and he is in kindergarten!
Getting them involved at a young age by helping sort and separate materials and maybe even planning a field trip to the local waste management facility is a great way to peak interest.
